when shit is a blessing

earlier this year i went volunteering for an isolated farm, on san cristobal, the easternmost island of the galapagos archipelago.

welcome to some where in the middle of no where!

volunteering there
… is feeling the freedom of swimming naked in the caribbean sea with no one but the mermaids.
… is listening to the chant of howler monkeys before a tropical storm arrives.
... is watching the humming bird building his nest, the coconuts fall and the baby animals grow.

i planted vegetables with names i never even heard of, i  tasted fresh cacao beans and i learned how to peel a coconut with the machete.

and the middle of nowhere is not a joke. the next shop is a 1h boat ride away, the neighbours you see once a month? horses, pigs, sheeps, goats, cats, monkeys, birds and the forest are the beings you mostly talk to.
if you ever get bored, you will take the pig out for a walk in the jungle.

however, it also means getting pregnant horses out of mud holes, fighting with raptors for your chicken and fertilizing with whatever dung you find and if you ever stumble over a big dung hill, you thank god, cause it means runnin a couple of miles less that day.

I loved it.
